It’s been a couple of weeks since our shoot with American model/blogger Tess Munster, so I thought it was about time that I gave you all a behind the scenes look from my point of view as the stylist.
I started prepping for the shoot back in late October by researching Tess’s personal style on her social media pages and, over the following weeks, pulling together outfits and props for all the different themes that we had decided on. The more information that I discovered about Tess, the more excited I got about meeting her. As well as being a plus size model and blogger, she is a body positive activist and founder of the body positive movement #effyourbeautystandards.
After weeks of planning, the day of the shoot finally arrived! Tess had already flown in from California a few days earlier and spent the weekend in London, so she arrived at our studio on the Monday morning looking fresh-faced and smiley! She was immediately warm and friendly, chatting about her visit to Harry Potter world and all the sight-seeing she had been doing. After the introductions she was off into hair and make-up with the lovely Amanda whilst the rest of us made sure that all of the sets were ready.
To begin with, Tess’s hair and make-up was a more natural pared-down look; it was so nice so see a different side of her as she is usually rocking glamorous make-up but she has such a naturally pretty face. To match this first look she was styled in a day-time layered outfit and some cosy indoor looks. The first few shots of any photo shoot are always a bit of a warm-up but we quickly fell into a nice rhythm. The second look for Tess’s hair and make-up took things up a notch with longer lashes and her signature red lip! I styled Tess in brighter statement outfits for some punchy fun shots! For the final look, Tess’ hair was pinned into a stunning up-do and Amanda added a smoky eye for full-on glamour! This look was of course for lots of sexy lingerie shots, and Tess rocked it!
We had so many outfits to get through and it was a busy jam-packed day but we kept the mood light by playing Christmas jingles and telling each other funny stories in between outfit changes. I found Tess to be as fun and feisty as I had imagined; she has a very cheeky sense of humour and loves to make people laugh. Getting to work with her on such a personal level was such a memorable experience for me and we bonded over wedding chatter as we are both getting married next year!
I really hope that I get to work with Tess again in the future; she’s such an inspiration for many women including myself.
Keep an eye out on the Yours website for more exciting results from our shoot! In the meantime I have put together a Tess Loves edit for you which includes some of her top picks as well as products that I styled for the shoot.
